What is Alpha?
Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the basics of the Christian faith. Each session covers a different question and provides space for discussion. Alpha runs worldwide and everyone is welcome — in cafés, churches, universities, homes and wherever it's possible.
Food
Food brings people together. Every Alpha session starts with a meal or coffee — it's a great way to build friendships and meet new people.
A Talk
A ~30-minute talk — live speaker or video — explores important questions of faith: Who is Jesus? What is the basis of belief? Why and how do we pray? How does God guide us?
Discussion
Probably the most important part of Alpha — a chance to share thoughts and views in a small group in a friendly, open environment. You don't have to say anything, but you can ask anything.
Where did we come from?
The Alpha Course has been run five times in our parish since 2018 (with a pandemic break) and was a turning point for many people who felt a longing for more and were searching for the next step — guided by the question "Is there more to life than this?" From that group, an evangelisation community was born.
We started meeting every other Thursday. But a persistent longing and desire to know the One who calls us to himself led to a new step: in September 2023 the Merciful Jesus Community from Rybnik‑Chwałowice organised the New Life course in our parish. More people joined, and from the desire of our hearts came the decision to meet every Tuesday.
We came under the care of the Merciful Jesus Community from Rybnik‑Chwałowice. In December 2023, by a vote, we chose our patron — Archangel Gabriel, the bearer of the Good News, because we too long to proclaim the Good News.
Our spiritual director is Fr. Krzysztof Tabath. The community leader is Marek Polywka. A key part of our meetings is the sharing of testimonies — people telling how Jesus is at work in their lives — alongside conversation, getting to know one another, and formation through the New Life Journal.
Through all of this we are growing, seeking to know not only each other, but above all the One who gathers and sends us — Jesus Christ. Without him we would have achieved nothing, and this community would never have come to be. Praise the Lord!
“We believe that everyone should have the chance to explore faith, ask questions and share their perspective — wherever they are on life's journey.”
